“One Midrash, Many Paths” Shabbat afternoons Nov 15, Jan 31, March 7 In this class we will explore aggadic midrashim from the 2nd-5th centuries and then journey with them throughout many hundreds of years into the text of the Zohar and the commentaries written by Hasidic masters. We will explore how a midrash was originally expounded from the p’shat of the Torah and then used many years later by the mystical sages to expand, refute or create new theological, textual, or psychological understandings of our tradition.
