Community Security Service (CSS)

CSS trains volunteers from within Jewish communities to provide professional-level security at synagogues, schools, community centers, and events.

About

The Community Security Service (CSS) is a national nonprofit that trains volunteers to protect Jewish institutions and events across the United States. Founded in 2007, it empowers local communities by providing professional-level security training in situational awareness, access control, and emergency response. CSS works closely with law enforcement and Jewish organizations to create a sustainable, volunteer-driven security network, ensuring that Jewish life can thrive safely and confidently. CSS offers the ROAM (Regional Outreach and Mobilization) / Young Professional Program, a proactive and purpose-driven volunteer initiative designed for young Jewish professionals with a passion for safeguarding community life. Participants undergo rigorous training in situational awareness, event security, self-defense techniques like Krav Maga, and emergency response. ROAM volunteers are then deployed as versatile protectors at Jewish events and institutions across their region, applying both specialized skills and youthful energy to enhance safety and build a culture of shared responsibility.
