Welcoming a new Jewish year can stir up a range of emotions – from thank goodness to oh my goodness. You might find yourself wondering: How does it feel to say goodbye to the year that came before? What does it mean to start a year afresh? What can I toss, and what can I keep? Tashlich (“casting off”) is, at its core, an act of catharsis – a Jewish ritual in which we toss pieces of bread, pebbles, leaves, or sticks into a body of water to symbolically cast away regrets or disappointments from the past year. This year, GatherDC is hosting three tashlich gatherings across DC, Maryland, and Virginia with our community partners – and we would love to see you there! Together with Rodef 2100, we’ll gather in a park for a light dinner before Tashlich. You are welcome to bring a picnic contribution- pizza will be provided by Rodef 2100. We’ll then learn about the practice of Tashlich and reflect on the past year. We’ll conclude with the ritual of casting away what no longer serves us (with Cheerios or dissolvable paper) and set intentions for 5787. Accommodations: ADA Accessible Venue. Please register in advance so the exact location can be shared with registrants.
